Violin for Luthiers sans Frontieres
sold
This violin is a special project. It was made by a team of four people: Victor Ortiz, Florence Ford, Emily Cruse and myself at the Newark Violin Making School during a Fiddle Race in 2006. The aim of the race is to build a violin in the white in three days. After the race a lot of time was spent by each of us to carefully finish it, and eventually it was varnished and set up by me in 2013/14. It has an antique finish. The sound is nice and reliable and it is easy to play.
The proceeds of this violin will go to the charity 'Luthiers sans Frontières'. The mission of Luthiers sans Frontières is to provide training and expertise in the repair and maintenance of instruments of the violin family in countries where there is political or economic difficulty. Since 2008 they have undertaken missions to Haiti, Ecuador, Afghanistan and Uganda.
