The Stradivari Maurin model violin is gradually progressing. I do the arching more or less in the dark. It helps to show the arching if you have just low angle striking light on your work. So this is the perfect time of the year for this particular job.
This month I spent a few weeks in the workshop of Philip Brown in Newbury. I learned many interesting things from Philip and his assistant Kathrin Hügel and we had a good time. We worked on violin and cello set ups and also a cello restoration project, which has been worked on for a number of years already. In January I will go back for another two weeks of work with Philip and Kathrin. I also learned a lot about making good lunches with the help of a rice cooker, which can do much more than just cooking rice and we had many good lunches together.
