Winter 2017-2018

This winter several projects have been on the go, many of them to do with sound adjustment. This can be a puzzle, with so many things influencing how a violin works. The bridge and the soundpost are very important in this of course. I enjoy trying to find ways to make an instrument work at its best.
In bridges it is interesting to find out how balanced they are. Stiffness and flexibility in different directions all do different things to the sound. How thick it is and where the cut outs are exactly and what shape and how much wood is left between them are interesting things to experiment with and to work out what is best for each specific instrument.

In between I have been working on a new violin. After selecting the wood I decided to start with the scroll. I found two nice pieces of wood, so I thought I might as well cut two scrolls, one for this and one for the next violin. I decided to redesign my template a bit from the previous time. It is interesting how you see different things every time again.
