Winter 2024
In between other jobs work on my latest violin has progressed bit by bit. The most determining aspects for the sound - arching and thicknessing of the front and back - have been done. I'm curious to see what it sounds like, but it's still quite a long way off. It still needs a bassbar, and all the parts need to be put together and then varnished.
Here you see the front being thicknessed.
Here you see the front being thicknessed.
The back has also been thicknessed, and glued to the ribs:
And the bass bar is glued to the front. The front is clamped to a frame, to make sure it doesn't accidentally move when you fit the bar to its internal shape and you get a reliable fit. Three tower studs make sure the bar gets fitted in the right location, and that it doesn't lean over at a funny angle.
